Trainer: Person Centered Thinking (2 Day Instructor-Led)
Dr. George Bithos attended the University of Texas and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and anthropology. He received his dental degree from Baylor School of Dentistry. After practicing reconstructive dentistry for 28 years, Dr. Bithos retired to change the direction of his life. He read for a PhD in theology and history at the University of Durham in Great Britain. After earning his degrees, he worked in academia in Boston. In 2004, he returned to Texas to become the Executive Director of the Texas Conference of Churches. In February 2010, Dr. Bithos was appointed the first Independent Ombudsman for SSLCs by Gov. Rick Perry.
The Office provides advocacy and protections for the residents, their families and loved ones in the 13 SSLCs across Texas. The staff includes one Assistant Independent Ombudsman at each facility, a central office administration and supports for the mission of the Office. George became a certified trainer in June 2015. In May 2017, George successfully completed the Texas Leadership Institute on Developmental Disabilities. The Texas Institute was presented by the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities.
Dr. Bithos has been married for 48 years to his wife, Ria. They have two grown, married children and 5 grandchildren. George and Ria travel to enjoy their family, the arts, cuisine and fine wine.
