Biography

Mary considers herself an eclectic social worker who has worked in many settings over her career. She has worked in ICF facilities within Michigan, Iowa and Texas. She has supported those in nursing homes, hospice, home health, and behavioral health to include those who are aging. Mary has taught “Contemporary Social Problems” for a junior college in West Texas, within two prisons. Foster and adoptive home studies were the focus when Mary began her own social service agency, which evolved into an agency that counseled abused and neglected children and their non-offending parents. As a former Placement Coordinator for Abilene State School, Legacy TXMHMR Regional Monitor, Quality Assurance Improvement System’s Coordinator, Consumer Rights Representative for DADS, Human Rights and Social Work Program Coordinator for State Supported Living Center’s her focus has always been on the quality of life for those she supported. Mary believes in her role as Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) Person Centered Practices Team Lead she is able to utilize all of her work experiences to improve the lives of all Texans supported by HHSC. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, past Board Member, Treasure and past President for the Texas Chapter and past Chair of the National Council of Chapter Presidents. Mary is a Girl Scout Advisor (leader), Facilitator (trainer), proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
