Biography

Mona Lara graduated Magna Cum Laude from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor of Applied Studies in Sociology and Communications. She then went on attend Princeton Theological Seminary where she earned a Master of Divinity degree specializing in preaching and pastoral care and counseling. Mona is part of an International team of trainers with The Learning Community as a Certified Person-Centered Thinking trainer. In 2018 Mona founded Lara Consulting and Services to provide continuing education and training to social workers, nurses, case managers and families. Areas of emphasis include Person Centered Practices, Geriatrics, Trauma Informed Care, Autism and Behavior and more. Ms. Lara’s background includes over 20 years of working with and advocating for teenage parents, Individuals with Disabilities, Geriatrics and the Aging, and Children in Foster and Adoption services.   Mona serves her community in multiple facets including Junior League of Abilene, Abilene Chamber of Commerce as a Red Coat Ambassador, American Cancer Society’s Cattle Baron’s Ball Committee, Taylor County Child Welfare Board, Chair of the Taylor County Aging Cluster, and Abilene Alzheimer’s Association Walk and Spring Gala Committees.

Mona is a National speaker who is passionate about empowering others to help change the lives of the least of these among us.  Mona speaks publicly and facilitates training in areas of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Trauma-Informed Care, Autism, Disabilities and Sexuality, and Homeschooling.

Mona and her husband Joe have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.  In her free time, Mona enjoys volunteering in her community, traveling with her family, and reading.
