Biography
When I first started learning about Person-Centered Thinking, I was amazed at how much I was already practicing PCT and PCP with the people I support in my 245D consulting business and my Family Residential Services role (Adult Foster Care). I embraced the newly introduced tools immediately, figuring out how I could incorporate them in my practice and in my home life. I couldn’t wait to tell people about what I was learning/doing.
When the opportunity was presented to become a PCT Trainer with my business partner, Angela Strasser, we jumped at it. It was eye-opening and an often vulnerable experience as I had to evaluate so much of who I was, how I saw people, and especially acknowledging the mistakes I had made along the way during my 20+ years of supporting people.
At the same time, I could not be more excited to share the PCT tools I had started to use in my own practice. The tools that made the people I support come alive on paper with their own personalities, the routines they had before moving in, the best way to support them going forward, their likes and dislikes and to be the person they are, not the disabilities they have.
If I can help one person change the way they see or support people by taking this class, I will have done what I have set out to do! I’m excited to be part of this learning community.
I am a mother to two biological special-needs children that I had to help navigate through their own struggles in school and life in general. I also took in a young woman who needed me from age 13 when her mom passed away and her dad was having addiction struggles. Throughout my life, I have helped raise kids that still call me mom. I have over 27 children that call me Grandma. This has been my greatest joy in life and I will continue to make a difference in their lives as well as the many people I have supported throughout my career.
I have a pocket American Bully that causes me grief but can’t imagine life without. I am engaged to a very beautiful man that makes me laugh every day. I love to ride my motorcycle, camp and travel as much as I can.
